| | Most owners are now becoming aware of the importance of Equine Dentistry. Regular dental checks can make a difference to the health and performance of your horse or pony. It is recommended that from an early age horses and ponies should have their teeth checked as regular as every 6 - 9 months. Picking up problems early on will prevent any possible future complications. At around the age of 13 years the growth rate of the tooth slows therefore extending your horses dental checks to yearly visits wouldn't do any harm. However attention should be paid to the older horses and ponies, particularly if they start dropping weight.Call an Equine Dentist in if you notice any of the following-+ Weight loss+ Dropping food whilst eating+ Quidding - Balls of hay dropped from the horses/ponies mouth+ Drinking whilst eating hay or dropping the hay into the water and eating it from there+ Bad breath+ Large pieces of grain in the manure+ Change in performance - reacting to bit pressure i.e unwilling to go on the bit, head tossing etc+ Lumps and bumps and packing that looks like swellings on the side of the face |
